Smoke alarm laws
Under the Building Regulations Act 2012, residences approved or built before May 1, 2015, are required to have compliant smoke alarms before any transfer of ownership, rental, or hiring takes place. However, interconnection of smoke alarms is not mandatory. The positioning of smoke alarms must adhere to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) relevant at the time of their installation. The quantity of smoke alarms necessary is contingent upon the classification, design, and dimensions of the building.
